First HC (House Church) meeting of the year! Venue at Unc Hoi Meng's house. Open worship as our worship leader Aty Dolly Nah (wooohoooo clap clap) will only lead for the first time next week. It was a Sunday of thanksgiving and prayer for those who are sick, Aty Sue Ling's sister and Chin Yee's (friend of aty Lai Leng) mom. Both have passed away on the same day as I'm writing this. Let us continue to be urgent and diligent in our prayers.

It was wonderful to have Aty Helen and family back. Charmaine's sharing was indeed a reminder to us the PERFECTION of Christ's sacrifice for us on the cross.

It was the final Sunday for the year 2008, and we were gathered together at Unc Chris house, being the last Sunday everyone had thanksgiving to give to God, Chung En was back and he shared with us his experience at DTS and a couple of many testimony which took place. Bethel has also discussed the possibility of having our gg on Sat night ... hmm...

This week many of our gang members are around......the world... yes Aty Helen and family in Canada and Uncle Edwin and family at the other end in Australia/NZ... so its a small group of us. And its the first time in our GG history that we have food before worship (shh!)!!! Anyways, Jia Hua who led us in worship shared an interesting but we believe significant dream about a Tempest Tree - and we(uncle Chris) decoded the dream as the church needs to be a tempest tree that is strong from its roots and can withstand the stormy weathers that others can depend on.

Sharing: Chris: God is absolutely guiding us as a church with regards to the direction we are heading, when people may say 'Times are bad, God's people must remember that God is good, all the time'. Aty Lai Leng received two words - 'Lifelong Learning' during Fri P&P for the concept of our new premise in CP BU, and coincidentally... not, that Aty Irene has plans for a tuition centre! (Hallelujah Chorus) Edwin shared his dream of the month : (i will just put this down in keywords... ) new premise, successful sunday school, church slept over, white moths, neighbor wanted to extend his place, chris presented himself as the elder of the church... no matter what happens God will provide a way out.

On the 26 Oct 2008 we had gg in Aty Helen's new apartment, and everyone had so many good testimony to share and i told aty Helen it would be cool if each of us can journal for ourselves what is meaningful to us in every gg.

Two weeks passed.

And on the 9 Nov 2008 we had gg in Unc Hoi Meng's house. And Aty Helen asked me, " So have you started recording down our gg sharing every week?" And I'm like..."Uh why is Aty Helen asking me? I thought its an individual thing..." -.-

And it dawned on me (Hallelujah Chorus) that she meant write a journal for our GG to record down our journey, especially now that we are heading towards house church structure.

GLOP Ep6 : 25 Days to Camp! (Expectations)

This episode, we highlighted what campers can expect...
Very reluctantly so...because we wanted to keep everything a surprise! Now that y'all know quite a bit, make sure you do your "Ooohs" and "Aaahs" when you get there!

Well, from the previous episode we had a sneak peek at where we will be spending our 4 days and 3 nights, and ain't it a lovely place. Middle of nowhere, plenty of space, green all 360 degrees. Spick and span mansion, with a pool right outside. Perfect.

As for the activities and progam, we are only letting on a bit, that is, the caving part. Yep, nature lovers listen up, bring your shoes and torchlight.

The caving experience is part of our enlightenment on being the "light" to the world full of darkness. ..

"You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill…"

Apart from he above, what should we expect spiritually? After all, this camp is about God!
And these are not easy expectations.

Date, Location: 13^th Apr 2008, Lunch Hour at the Yu residence.
Occasion: Lunch and Church Camp Meeting after GG
Atmosphere: CHAOS.

Picture this. Hoi Meng, Lai Leng, Chris, Helen, Irene, Edwin, Emily, Charmaine, Yung Ling, Jia Ling, Jia Hua, Hui En, Jia Tee etc… all talking and eating at one table AT THE SAME TIME.

Louder than a Hakka reunion, I reckon.

Our meeting intensifies, with ideas, arguments, reasoning, clarification, confusion thrown over nasi lemak and noodles of all sorts. I guess that’s what inspired Unc Hoi Meng to pen this poem for Episode 6 of our GLOP announcement. Being one of the quieter of the lot, he must have thought: “What is this hoo-ha over a camp?”

Year in year out, why Family Camp?
So much need to do and so much need to plan,
I remembered Helen says can ah…and I said.……can can,
Now I wonder whether I am in a frying pan!

To have meeting……..good-lah over makan,
Yum, yum, talk, talk…….can still work and plan,
Young and old, never mind we are all part of the band,
For all in the GG ever ready to give a helping hand.

God’s Love, Our passion……this is the theme,
To evangelize, we need internally Christ driven steam,
Furthermore, to evangelize, we also need to work as a team,
For Antioch to multiply and grow will not be then just a dream!

His people, His creation…..Our LORD seek out with full compassion,
For you, me & the whole world, He last prayed before his crucifixion,
In His grace……we are all now saved from eternal damnation,

COME to CAMP & find out His passionate love for His Creation!

Let’s ask God to give us specific oikos to bring to the camp, and act by faith. If you are feeling obliged to come yourself, maybe you are your own oikos! Challenge yourself to rediscover God’s love – the original lover, the only truth, the one creator.

GLOP Ep 4: Passion for People Pt.1

Two weeks ago (6th Apr) Charmaine gave us a lil brain workout during congregation Sunday. Asking us to draw a few strange objects (like almonds and whatnots), she made us write the pictographic message – Eye Heart U (turn). Basically “I Love You”.

God wanted to share His love. He demonstrated His love to us humans through the man Jesus Christ. His existence, His ministry, His death – was all to say – “I’ll do anything for you”. Jesus Christ was how we could understand the insaneness of God’s love. Without the demonstration on the cross, God’s love might seem like a fairy tale or legend to us.

Just as Charmaine has shown us how seemingly nonsensical icons can spell out a meaningful statement, we must bring the gospel – irrelevant at first to some, but meant for all, to everyone we meet.

Faith is an outcome of our love for God.
Works is an outcome of our love for His people.

What do we do to demonstrate our love for others, as God as loved us?

Simply put, we must be evangelists, bringing the good news and demonstrating it by caring and praying for them.

A few of us: Lai Leng, Jia Hua, Yung Ling, Jia Tee & Jia Yein attended Release Conference – an evangelism conference by Tony Anthony on the 21st March. Their testimonies ring in unison – it was a revelation; a liberation of our occupation as evangelists. Evangelism is as simple as leaving a tract for a stranger, or spending a few minutes explaining the gospel to our friends. Recently I had a chance of sharing my faith, and to my surprise, people are more curious and eager to know than I imagined. After a long time not sharing the gospel, I was taken aback by my own words – as if I was hearing the gospel for the first time again.

Let not our insecurities and fears take over our love. Imagine if you have not heard the gospel! Wouldn’t you want to hear it? Pastor Cally related to us how a friend wept when he heard the Gospel for the first time, realizing that he was waiting for that good news all his life.

Let’s ask God, to give us an open door to share, not out of duty, but out of love. If you have forgotten the message of the Gospel, ask God to tell you the good news again, and spread the word!

GLOP - Episode 3: Easter - Passion for God

Hi ANC-ers,

So, we have been visualizing the upcoming camp as a fire starter that will really help us learn about how God is really really just totally crazy and passionate for us to be with Him.

Easter is all about the grace and mercy of God through Jesus, the Passion of Jesus. When we fully understand what Jesus did on Easter, we make Him our passion, and then serve him out of this passion.

Though we always tell ourselves that we serve God self-sacrificing-ly which is good, but its not the whole picture. We get burn out soon, our passion is for but a moment. But to serve God because we know His Passion for us, nothing is a sacrifice anymore. We can then go to the ends of the earth to tell others about him.

If you find yourself in a vulnerable position as a Christian and ashamed of your faith, you need to search the Word of God to reassure your salvation. If your passion for Jesus is stagnant and you are not exactly crazy about Him, then you need to discover His passion again, your first love.

Coming for this camp is not obliging to your parents, your gg leaders or even your own conscience. It's knowing for sure how much God loves you.

Having said that, this journey is not confined to the camp dates. Which is why today, we urge you to start your walk anew, go into the secret places to spend time with God and discover Him.

GLOP - Episode 2: Aow! Pastor Aow

So okay, honestly, partly we came up with the idea of introducing our upcoming camp speaker, Pastor Aow in our episodes, is because I (youknowho) don't really know anything about him.

I missed Pastor Aow and Sister Mei last year because I wasn't around. So as I said to some, what if I met Pastor Aow on the street, accidentally spilled his shopping cart or something, and by impulse shouted "LOOK WHERE YOU'RE GOING!" (by the way, no, I don't usually do that. maybe when driving).

Imagine the horror when we meet in church camp! Just an extreme scenario.

But really, I thought it would be a good idea for all of us to know who's gonna be our special guest and ministering to us during the 4 days.

SO...

Pastor Aow is the pastor of His Arrows Church in Singapore. Besides pastoring his church, he has ministered in several countries in Asia and planted over 20 house churches outside of Singapore. Over the years, he has impacted many Asian leaders through his evangelism course taught in Haggai Institute--an ministry set up to train two third world leaders in evangelism leadership. Ps Aow is married to Mei and they have 2 children.

Recently we just had Sister Mei with us. She gave a powerful awakening for us to dress up and prep up for spiritual warfare.

Do pray for them as they are being used by God to advance His kingdom in the upcoming camp.

Antioch Network Community 13th Anniversary

ANC celebrates her 13th birthday, marking milestones along 2007, including shedding the name Bandar Utama Chapel to Antioch NetWork CommUnity.

2008 marks a new covenant and new promised lands for us.
Along with the Church, the Bride of Jesus throughout the world, God is moving us into a new realm, with more prayer and power.

Antioch - the first place in the Bible where Christians are given the name.

NetWork - because we believe we are to work and serve together with other churches of Jesus

CommUnity - we are to create a community of God where people belong and pray with one voice

GLOP - Episode 1: Behind the Theme

For those who didn’t catch the “episode” at our congregational meeting last week, here’s what was “broadcasted”.

So! A few weeks ago in the house of our newly appointed GG leader (one of them) the members of Bethel (fed and watered) sat down to discuss the theme for our 2008 church/family camp. With Pastor Aow, an expert in evangelism as our camp speaker, we were having in mind an evangelistic themed camp, but as ideas were bounced off the whiteboard, the words “Passion” and “Love” keeps recurring. To be honest, I THINK we are not so good at the whole oikos thing… YET. (As the congregation in whole) But we always seek to edify one another through our fellowship and worship together.

Looking at the direction of the congregation – what is the church longing for?
As the congregation journeys on towards deeper prayer and intimacy with God with “Give Me 40 Days” by Freeda Bowers, as well as Jaeson Ma’s “The Blueprint” that calls for prayer and waiting on God above all else, it’s obvious that the only thing we are required to fulfill in our Christian walk is to simply – love God passionately.

Simple? But what is “passion”? What does it mean to have passion for God?
When we think about all our other passions and love, it becomes harder to ‘sacrifice’ for God. Passion means ‘to suffer’ in Greek, something you live for, something you’ll DIE for- so, not so simple after all right? No! It is still as simple, just not easy.

From Uncle Hoi Meng and Yung Ling’s sharing during worship two congregations ago, we know we can’t force ourselves to be in love with God. Often times we sing “I love You Lord” thinking about a friend who is depressed and sick. Or that we just had an car accident. Or lunch.

So how la. Only by discovering God’s passion for us FIRST, how God pursued and died for us before we even know Him, then only we can fall in love with Jesus.

We work so hard for God, but how many of us are actually enjoying God?
Why is it more important to love God than to work for God?

So, to quote two writers our members have been reading:

Lets discover God’s passion for us even now, so that we may be of one heart with God, and share His passion.

What does the Bible say?

OLD TESTAMENT

• The provision of God in the Garden of Eden

• The generosity of God shown to:

• Abraham (Gen 13:2 - Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold)

• Isaac (Gen 26:14 – Isaac was blessed in a similar fashion)

• Job (Job 1:1 – Job was a man of great wealth and he was blameless and upright)

NEW TESTAMENT

• The wise men brought their wealth to the Christ child as a means of worship

• Zacchaeus gave generously

• The poor widow gave sacrificially

• Wealthy women helped support the band of disciples (Luke 8:2-3)

GOD’S PROVISION

• To recognize that everything God created is good, very good and it is meant to bless and enhance human life. All that were necessary to carry on human life is seen in the gracious gift of a loving God. The very bounty of the earth can draw us closer to God in thanksgiving & praise!

• So much of what comes is not the result of our doing but a GIFT, UNEARNED & UNEARNABLE. (Deut 6:10b-11)

GOD’S OWNERSHIP

• In the bible, God’s absolute rights as owner and our relative rights as stewards are unmistakably clear.

– Job 41:11

– Exo 19:5-6

• As absolute owner, God puts limits on the individual’s ability to accumulate land and wealth (Deut 14:28-29, Exod 23:11)

• (Every 50th year was to be a Jubilee Year, in which all slaves were to be set free, all debts cancelled and all land return to its original owner….)

• God’s rationale for so doing upsetting everyone’s economic applecarts was very simply that “the land is mine”

• God’s ownership of all things actually enhances our relationship with him

– We know what we are having and all the things around us actually belongs to Another

• This awareness frees us from a possessive and anxious spirit

– Our focus goes to God and not on things

• After we have done what we can to care for those things that have been entrusted to us, we know they are in bigger hands than ours.

The Grace of Giving

• Offering is correctly placed as part of worship experience

• Giving brings authenticity and vitality to our devotional experience

• Money is an effective way of showing our love to God bcos it is so much a part of us

– You give money, you give your “self”

– Giving frees us from the tyranny of money

– Giving frees us to care. We are being used to help make a difference in the world, and that is worth living for and giving for.

Controlling & Using

• The call of God is upon us to use money within the confines of a properly disciplined spiritual life and to manage money for the good of all humanity and for the glory of God. And this we are drawn deeper to God.

• Resources are channeled into life-giving ministry – the helpless are helped. Projects that advanced Christ’s kingdom are financed. Great good is accomplished.

• Money is a blessing when it is used within the context of the life and power of God.

The lessons of Trust

• Money used by God to build trust.

– Jesus teaches us to pray for daily bread he is teaching us to live in trust.

– When the children of Israel gathered manna in the wilderness they were allowed only a daily supply. Any more than the daily allotment would spoil. They were learning to live in trust, daily trust, upon Yahweh.

• In the above illustrations, money is used by God to build a spirit of trust within us and not meant to cause us to give up our retirement plans or saving accounts etc.

APPLICATION

• We celebrate the light side of money by learning to cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving.

• Help each other grow in gratitude

• When we have a spirit of thanksgiving we can hold all things lightly. We receive; we do not grab. And when it is time to let go, we do so freely. We are not owners, only stewards.

FINALLY

• Our lives do not consist of the things that we have, for we live and move and breathe in God, not things. Also intangible “things” i.e. status, reputation, position.

• These are things that come and go in life, and we can learn to be thankful when they come and thankful when they go.

Money ! Money ! Money!

Is it good? Bad or Neutral?

Is it OK to accumulate more & more?

Introduction:

There are 3 conversions mentioned according to Martin Luther…….

The conversion of the heart, mind and the purse.

Money subject is something not publicly talked about due to various reasons or hang ups etc but Jesus didn’t think that way. Jesus taught a lot about money.

Money is discussed a surprisingly a number of places in the Bible and according to a survey, there are 1,600 verses in the Bible that have to do with money or finances. There are over 500 verses that includes the words “money,” “riches,” or “wealth.”

Our attitudes towards money and wealth are clearly an indicative of who we are and what our relationship is with God. If Christianity has no impact on our pocketbooks and the way we use our credit cards, Christianity is not worth very much.

Reading passage - 1 Timothy 6

3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,

4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions

5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

§ My self-image is dependent on what I own.

Ø MONEY BRINGS HAPPINESS

§ If I only had such and such, then I would be happy.

Ø MONEY BRINGS SECURITY AND SECURITY COMES FROM HAVING SUFFICIENT FINANCIAL RESOURCES

§ Be secure for the rest of your life once your finances are all lined up.

PREVAILING DISTORTIONS

Ø MONEY IS A SIGN OF GOD’S BLESSING, AND HENCE POVERTY IS A SIGN OF GOD’S DISPLEASURE

§ Love Jesus and get rich.

Ø VIEW STEWARDSHIP OF MONEY AS COMPLETELY NEUTRAL AND DEPERSONALIZED

§ It is merely a medium of exchange.

We deserve whatever we have

Ø What I own, I have gained from my own hard work!

q From a economist viewpoint – Is there a cor-relation between “wealth & income” with “effort & hard work”?

q Yes, to some extent….but only to a small extent! (even from a secular perspective)

- Certainly it is true that a diligent worker, who is wise in making investments, who saves regularly is likely on average to have more than the person who is opposite in all those ways. However, there are many “accidents” or “factors” that lead one person to have more than another, i.e. your background, your family, your race, your country etc. Some of the hardest working people, and have made the wisest investments, and yet they are in the category who have an income of about $3 a day and lives in the high lands of East Africa. They have no opportunity to get any more than that because of where they were born, the resources they inherited, and the policies of their governments.

There is NO one-to-one correspondence between diligence, hard work and income.

What is the Biblical perspective?
WE DO NOT DESERVE WHATEVER WE HAVE AT ALL!

1 Chronicles 29 – David’s prayer when he is commissioning Solomon as his successor, and talking about the money they have raised to give to God for the building of the temple. David says, “Wealth and honor come from you, Lord”

Deut 8:17-18 – You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me”. But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

Ø So what God is saying that even if what we have is the result of our hard work, that hard work itself is a gift of God. Our ability to do hard work is a gift of God. So, who we are does not consist of what we own. Our status does not depend on our income.

WE DO NOT DESERVE WHATEVER WE HAVE.

Money brings happiness!

Ø If only I had a new car, a larger house, a higher salary, better clothes or better education.

Ø Almost always wealthy people, famous people, who are envied because we tend to think this is what life is really about.

q Does money leads to happiness?

q Yes, to some extent….if we follow the Economist law of ceteris paribus..(holding all things constant)

- If we could hold all other things constant like our attitudes constant, the way we relate to people constant, and everything on ourselves constant, then the additional money that gives us more choices, more opportunities, we would probably be happier.

q The problem is that when we desire more, that desire itself changes us. When we get more, we want more….we become not content with what we have. WE WANT YET MORE!

What is the Biblical perspective?
If we have what we need in order to live, both to nourish and protect us from the elements, we will be content with that

Ø The Bible tells us that whether we are poor or rich, or somewhere in the middle, if we have desire for more money, if that is driving us, we will never be satisfied.

Phil 4: 11-13 – I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Ø Paul is saying that God is in control of our lives. And whatever, He wants us to do, He will provide us with the necessary resources to accomplish.

True happiness comes not from building up resources, but from doing the will of God.

Money brings security

Ø If only we have one million dollars, then we would be secure.

q Why is it not true?

q Because money and finances are fleeting.

- Riches can disappear, and we can spend a lot of worry, and time, and energy trying to make sure that they don’t.

Prov 23:5 - Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

Prov 13:8 - A man's riches may ransom his life, but a poor man hears no threat (sleeps without worries).

Luke 12: 15 - 21

15 Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop.

17 He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'

18 "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '

20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'

21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."

This man’s problem was not that he had been very successful in his work. This man’s problem was not necessarily that he was thinking how to build better resources for storing what he had. This man’s problem was that he was thinking of this wealth as his security. He was not using the wealth that God had given him for the purposes that God had intended, but only for himself, and thinking that he was perfectly secure because of what he had.

Distortion that lies on a Biblical teaching of the great generosity of God

• Even the disciples of Jesus struggled with this distortion.

– They were amazed that a “camel could slip through the eye of a needle more easily than the wealthy could enter the kingdom of God.

– Their amazement comes from the belief that the rich young ruler was a sign of God’s special favor upon him.

– No wonder they exclaimed, “who then can be saved?” (Matt 19:25)

• What about the story of Job? The firm conviction from his comforters that he must have sinned, that’s why he is suffering economic misfortune.

Distortion that money is neutral and harmless

• This talk of stewardship fails to see money is not just a neutral medium of exchange but a “power” that is demonic in character

Money as Power

Ø Not purchasing power

Ø Not something vague or impersonal

Ø But real spiritual power with spiritual forces that energizes it and is capable of inspiring devotion

q What we must recognize is the seductive power of mammon – power to win our hearts and in between us & God (Example of the rich young ruler)

q For Christ, money is an idolatry with many characteristic of a deity. It gives us security, can induce guilt, gives us freedom, gives us power and seems to be omnipresence. Most sinister of all, is its bid for omnipotence. We attach importance to it far beyond its worth.

q If money were only a medium of exchange, it will make no sense to attach prestige to it – eg we value people in relation to their income. We give status & honor in relation to how much they have.

The Rich Young Ruler

Mark 10:17-22

17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good-- except God alone.

19 You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'"

20 "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy."

21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

22 At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

• Jesus wants this guy to have the kind of relationship that will open up eternal life to this man and open up his life now to everything that God can give him.

• Here we need to note that Jesus did not say this to every rich person he met. There are other rich families that we meet in the New Testament, rich individuals, and Jesus doesn't tell them all to give up everything that they have eg. like Mary, Martha and Lazarus & others, Jesus never says that to them, even though they seem to be wealthy. There are other disciples that had enough money, there are other people who followed Jesus that had enough money to support Jesus and the other 12 and he doesn't seem to say it to them. And the early church never forced that on new Christians.

• So we've got to begin by realizing that this is a personal problem, personal question and Jesus gives him an answer that is meant for him. However, we can learn from this, that applies for all of us, is that money and possessions are so dangerous that they can stand between us and God. Money is not harmless. And so this is an issue that we have to deal with in our lives.

• Jesus doesn't need or want this man's money. Take a look at what Jesus actually says. He says, go, sell what you have, give it to the poor and then penniless come and follow me. So Jesus is not saying liquidate your stuff so that I can have it to use. It's not what is happening here. Because again, Jesus loves this person and so what this is a prescription for the problem that this person is having that's putting up a barrier between him and God. So Jesus doesn't want or need the money. God doesn't need our money. God will use our money. God will do wonderful things through our generosity, but he doesn't need it and never are we to give because God needs it. We need it more than he does.

APPLICATION

Conquering the Dark Side

Lets check our feelings about money

• Our fear, insecurity and guilt about money

• We are afraid we have too little and we are also afraid with too much

By conscious act of will, let us stop denying our wealth

• We do not need to be ashamed of our wealth but to conquer it and use it for God’s good purposes

Create an atmosphere in which confession is possible

• Helping each other relates to it

Lets us discover ways to be in touch with the poor
Inner renunciation – no longer what is mine is mine.

• A conversion of our understanding of ownership

Give with glad & generous hearts

• Even the poor need to know that they can give. Just the very act of letting go of money, or some treasure, does something within us. It destroy the demon greed.

Are we possessed or are we possessors?

• Are we possessed by our possessions or are we possessors? Do we control our money and our possessions? Or has it gotten out of control? If we control our possessions, if we possess things instead of them possessing us, then it means that our possessions and our money are tools. We can use those tools for our own enjoyment, but we could also use those tools to serve other people and to serve God. It means that we can part with our possessions and part with our money, if that's what we need to do. It means that as we make more money, we don't have to spend it all, but we can give it. It means that we can even scale back our lifestyle if that is what we need to do. That's what it means to be a possessor instead of being possessed.

IBA captainball league finals 2007

We. Won. The. Captainball. Challenge.

Ok, not 1st place. It was sort of 3rd place la! BUT what a day!

We won 2 matches! For those who didn't know, we had been playing captainball in Klang with other churches for the past 6 weeks had been losing to other teams. We were the underdogs. But what a miracle it was last Sunday! At times, it looked like we couldn't win the game. But the situation turned around. Lesson - Endure till the end!

But the other good thing is that we met new people as well as old BUC friends who joined us for captainball . A message was shared at the end of the day. Let's pray that they will one day join our big big family :)

Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson. I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here's what happened.
I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car's back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I said, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.' Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don't take it personally.
You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
You'll be happy you did.

So this was it: The 'Law of the Garbage Truck.' I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, 'I'm not going to do it anymore.' I began to see garbage trucks. I see the load they're carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

One of my favorite football players of all time, Walter Payton, did this every day on the football field. He would jump up as quickly as he hit the ground after being tackled. He never dwelled on a hit. Payton was ready to make the next play his best.

Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses.
Teachers and parents know that they have to be fully present, and at their best for the people they care about.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks take over their day. What about you?

So.. Love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't.
Believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance , TAKE IT!
If it changes your life , LET IT!

A Beautiful Evening with the Lord

Yesterday we have such a beautiful evening during the Ladies Discipleship Cell meeting at Helen’s house. It was a special evening where we did not do our normal study. The leaders wanted a time of sharing and praying and so we did.

Firstly, we were all very excited to know how we fare in our scoring of our Spiritual Gifts Test which we did a week ago. We all wanted to know what God has given us. Some were disappointed, some were surprised, and some were challenged.

Then we went into a time of sharing and it was so good to hear sharing of God’s goodness in all of our lives. Each one HE holds dearly and planned carefully. It was so evident that God is in each of us and I am so very glad that we are conscious of it. What was most beautiful is to hear the cry of a young lady who thirsts for HIM so much. She was crying out loud for HIM. God was right there affirming her that she is as precious as a golden heart. How amazingly beautiful is our LORD! All praises to HIM.

Like Selvi said, lets seek HIM this Sunday with all our heart. What if HE says, ‘I MISSED YOU’?

With regards to serving Christ, which of these four words describes me?
As shared by Unc Hoi Meng in GG on 29 Jul, it has given me encouragement to go on.

Although sometimes we maybe Tired, and matters and effort can be Tiresome, we'd think its time to be Retired. But no, we must continue to be Tireless. Christ remained faithful and Tireless till the end - for me, for you. And we can be sure that in times when we are weak, God whispers to us, "My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Cor 12:8

Yesterday we met at Aunty Helen's house for GG. We had good fellowship and good food!! (Yeah we celebrated Hoi Meng, Lai Leng, Denise, and my (Yung Ling) birthday. And we finished the bible study lesson 'Good Grief'. Please remember to prepare Chapter 7 The Need to Give for the next gg meeting.

Busyness.... (Cringe)

The past month everyone has been busy(i feel its necessary to cringe everytime this word is spoken), either with work, or study, or church or other things. I certainly was one caught in the middle of it, so much so that i can't remember what worthwhile things i have done.

Yet, there is a time when i know i must come back to God (although i know i seriously can't keep repeating this drifting-away-then-come-back-when-i'm-finally-free process). What a sister shared in church some time ago still impacts me and reminds me everyday (even in the midst of busyness) about the snare of the cares of this world. I'm must say what she shared has come a long way. Thank you Selvi. The passage is from My Utmost for His Highest. Hope that it will bless you too:

Look Again and Think

Do not worry about your life . . . —Matthew 6:25

A warning which needs to be repeated is that "the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches," and the lust for other things, will choke out the life of God in us (Matthew 13:22). We are never free from the recurring waves of this invasion. If the frontline of attack is not about clothes and food, it may be about money or the lack of money; or friends or lack of friends; or the line may be drawn over difficult circumstances. It is one steady invasion, and these things will come in like a flood, unless we allow the Spirit of God to raise up the banner against it.

"I say to you, do not worry about your life . . . ." Our Lord says to be careful only about one thing-our relationship to Him. But our common sense shouts loudly and says, "That is absurd, I must consider how I am going to live, and I must consider what I am going to eat and drink." Jesus says you must not. Beware of allowing yourself to think that He says this while not understanding your circumstances. Jesus Christ knows our circumstances better than we do, and He says we must not think about these things to the point where they become the primary concern of our life. Whenever there are competing concerns in your life, be sure you always put your relationship to God first.

"Sufficient for the day is its own trouble" (Matthew 6:34). How much trouble has begun to threaten you today? What kind of mean little demons have been looking into your life and saying, "What are your plans for next month— or next summer?" Jesus tells us not to worry about any of these things. Look again and think. Keep your mind on the "much more" of your heavenly Father (Matthew 6:30).

Hello all,

GONG XI FA CAI! Blessed Chinese New Year to all of you. What a meaningful Sunday gathering we had in Antioch on the first day of CNY. Even though its only a few of us, I feel really joyful to be amongst God's people, singing love songs to God. Yoke Kheng graciously printed song sheets for us and led us in a time of worship. Just as Uncle Hoi Meng shared in GG, where God's people is gathered, there is where God is, how encouraging.

Truly, CNY is a time of giving and loving, together with family and friends. Nai Kyn shared on Sunday that the greatest thing we can share is love - God's love.

Our CHINESE NEW YEAR LUNCH is on THIS SUNDAY 25th Feb 10.30am at Aunty Helen's home. Let's invite our friends to share God's goodness and love as we makan 'together-gether'. Jia Hua is in charge of the program for the day.

Let's also pray that God's blessing of His presence and joy be in us as we fellowship together.

...... not to National Service, but to Residential Bible School (RBS) 2007 in Highlands Christian Centre HCC. She has arrived in HCC yesterday and the first thing she sms-ed back is, "I arrived di!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here so nice no sun!!"

The person I am talking about is my sister Jia Tee. She will spend about 5 weeks in RBS to undergo discipleship training. It will certainly be an exciting and fruitful adventure and learning experience for her.

And there is many opportunities to thank God for His goodness and providence. Uncle Aaron Tham offered to give JT a ride as he was also sending his daughter Selina. And JT also receive ang pau from beloved gg members for her fees and expenses. Praise the Lord! Hui En and Uncle Chris (RBS founder... don't play play) even came to send JT off yesterday morning. I don't know about JT, but I am truly moved to see such love in action.

JT will be back on the 8th Feb. From now till then, the only means of communication with her is .... snail mail. Let's remember to pray for her that she stay healthy, able to adapt, teachable, also brave to make new friends, and time to spend with God and to know Him better ....etc.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

It has been just over a week now that Luan has been home. The medical team from Hospice visits every day to administer palliative care and monitor the situation. More fistulas have appeared. Due to her excruciating pain, a high dosage of morphine has to be given. Her stomach has not been able to absorb the nutrients the last two days.

We thank the Lord for a good night nurse and nurse friend who have helped relieve the family. Many relatives and friends from far and near have visited and prayed. Chris is thankful for all your support.

Yet at this time Chris reminded the church that whatever the outcome, to remember that “God is sovereign. He is still good and He knows what is best and nothing can separate us from His love. Let us continue to be faithful to the Lord Who will work all things together for good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Should the Lord choose to take Luan home, it is not death but will be that the Lord has taken her. I want the church to celebrate His goodness. For me to live is Christ.”

When Chris asked her what she wanted to tell Jesus, she replied, (that I will) stay faithful. Indeed the last few days she expressed that her desire was to be a woman of faith. We indeed praise the Lord for this dear faithful sister in the Lord. What a testimony to Him!

In the words of brother Chris, “It has been a journey of growth for each of us as much as for Luan. You have walked with me but it’s also a journey I have to walk with Luan and then for her to walk by herself. The Lord has prepared me. Thank you for your concern.”

Hello Everybody

Great to have this site up and I hope the "older" ones like me, Uncle Edwin, Aunty Helen, Aunty Emily, etc will try this out as a good form of communication. 2006 has been a very eventful year because I learned so much from work. I love what I do although it can be quite demanding.

2007 will be a year to give back more to the Lord. Everything that I have comes from him. So, everything should go back to him.

To those in college - look forward to a good year of studying in 2007.

This blog is for all members of Aunty Helen's Growth Group from Bandar Utama Chapel, but we welcome comments from others...

Satan and his demonic hosts were defeated and thrown out of heaven.

Earth the Battle Ground

l Man’s right to govern the world

l Gen 3 Satan tempted Adam to rebel

l Man rebelled and sinned

l Lost his lofty position/authority

l Lost the right to personhood

l Lost his domain

l Satan became the legal possessor

l Man became his slave

Who Qualifies to Fight Back?

l To reclaim earth

l Only the Incarnate Son of God

l Battle fought and won on earth by the new Adam
